ShareAction is a charity that attends companies' AGMs to promote responsible investment and has recently published a blog with thoughts on how to change the AGM for the better.

For charities, the emergency transition in 2020 to largely online AGMs and other general meetings has brought some concern about lack of effective engagement with their voting members but, looking to the future, allowing people to attend charity AGMs from their homes if they choose to (or if that's their only option) can only increase engagement and the accountability of membership charities to their stakeholders.

So, if corporate charities have not yet taken advantages of the current flexibilities afforded by The Corporate Insolvency and Governance Act 2020 to use online member meetings now to amend their articles of association/ CIO constitution to provide a range of options for attending future meetings, then now is the time to do so - the flexibilities are set to end on 30 March....
