In the midst of all the holiday cancellations the UK is putting up with at present, does it look like the extension to the Stamp Duty holiday is also to be abandoned? Or is it simply that the MP's debate has been cancelled, but the extension itself may still happen?

Time will no doubt tell but it seems somewhat inequitable that buying and selling, and more particularly moving house, is starting to get harder to achieve due to lockdown rules, and yet the 31 March deadline is looming large. Of course, some commentators have argued that the SDLT holiday has merely artificially boosted housing transactions and house prices, and that the holiday has really been a bit of a Government giveaway with no real effect.

The Chancellor will of course soon provide all the answers!
